GREEN FURRING SOLUTIONS FOR
BLOCK & POURED CONCRETE WALLS
What is the cost compared to conventional wood framing?
A contractor installed EcoStud system will cost approximately $.78/ft² compared to $.82/ft² for conventional framing. These costs will vary depending upon local labor rates and current market conditions.

What tools do I need?
Chop saw, table saw, caulking gun, track nailer, portable drill, tin snips, drill bits, driver bits, tape measure, felt tip pen.  NOTE:  While a gas track nailer is the fastest method of attaching studs to walls it is not necessary as self tapping concrete screws can be used.

What centers are recommended?
24” centers; however 16” can be used if preferred.

Do I need top or bottom plates?
No, most codes require physical attachment to the structure and this is provided for with the integrated nailing flange. See the construction detail page for suggested treatments.

How do I finish corners?
See construction detail pages for recommended treatments.

What type of adhesive should I use?
Any construction adhesive designed to bond plastic, concrete and wood.
Although OSI QB300 has been tested and approved by EcoStud.

What insulation systems can be used with EcoStud?
All standard insulation systems can be used. While EcoStud performs best when used with high density spray applied closed cell foam all insulation systems can be used. When using fiberglass bats you will need to order full width bats. With extruded polystyrene foam, rip the foam to width on a table saw and glue the foam to the wall, for ease of installation it is recommended to insulate and fur at the same time. For blown in cellulose simply allow the studs at least 24 hours for the adhesive to dry prior to installing the insulation.

Does EcoStud provide a moisture barrier?
Yes, when used with high density spray applied closed cell foam.

Can I leave EcoStuds exposed?
No, fire codes require a 15 minute fire barrier typically provided by sheet rock. Alternatively they can be coated with an intumescent coating to provide the required barrier.

What fasteners should be used to attach EcoStud to itself?
½” needle point screws commonly referred to as zips.

How do I attach outlet or switch boxes?
Replace the nails for the boxes with drywall screws and screw directly to the stud.

Do I need to use special screws to hang sheet rock?
No, any drywall screw will work coarse or fine thread. It is always recommended to use the glue and screw method for attaching the panels.

Will EcoStud accept trim nails?
Yes, 16 gauge air driven nails will hold trim in place. It is recommended that adhesive be used in conjunction with the nails.

Can large appliances be attached directly to EcoStud?
No, where appliances such as flat screen televisions and cabinets are to be hung it is recommended that treated wood fillers be used to reinforce the hollow of the stud and long concrete screws be anchored through the stud directly into the block or concrete wall. See construction details for best practices.

Can EcoStud be used for interior walls?
We do not recommend EcoStud for interior walls.

Does EcoStud meet code?
Yes, however the Contractor or Homeowner is responsible for obtaining local code approval.

What LEED data do you provide?
The LEED Data page reviews the many LEED categories that EcoStud can qualify for.
